Sacraments at the Service of Holy Communion
Sacrament of Marriage
Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. (Ephesians 5:31)
Marriage is a sacrament of love, which two people offer to each other, and mirrors Christ’s love for His Church. Through this sacrament, Jesus becomes part of the union and covenant between husband and wife.
A Christian marriage is a unique way to live like Christ, loving and serving one another in the context of a family. With the graces conferred by Jesus and the Holy Spirit, the couple is strengthened in love, supported in their union and sanctified on the journey to eternal life.
Sacrament of Holy Orders
Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood. (Acts 20:28)
“Those who receive the sacrament of Holy Orders are consecrated in Christ’s name to ‘feed the church by the word and grace of God’”. (CCC 1535)
“Holy Orders is the sacrament through which the mission entrusted by Christ to his apostles continues to be exercised in the Church until the end of time”. (CCC 1536)
